Russell Martin admitted 6-0 to his side at the hands of the Brugge Club in his second part of Playoff in the Champions League was “humiliating”, while the pressure was the head of Rangers.
The Scottish club, which had Max Aarons sent within ten minutes to Bruges, crashed 9-1 in total as goals by Joaquin Seys (2), Nicolo Tresoldi, Hans Vanaken, Aleksandar Stankovic and Christos Tzolis grouped what has been miserable weeks for Martin and his team.
The rangers are now winning three games in all competitions, with Martin’s future at the club, which is increasingly in danger of the former Derby firm on Sunday against Celtic, who themselves suffered humiliation in Europe this week after they were eliminated by the Kazakhstan Kazakhstan Club for penalties.
“I’m really wounded. It’s humiliating,” Martin said after the game. “I have nothing to really say than to apologize to the followers for what happened tonight.
“The basic foundations hurt us. So much autonomous pain, last week and today, this is so avoidable. Our response to this, as a group right now, is not good enough. So I am very sorry.
“We need to assure us that we respond correctly on Sunday (against Celtic).”
The Rangers chief also revealed that full -time dressing players had said “lots” and insisted that the squad needed some “real leadership”.
“There were many things in the dressing room among the players,” added Martin.
“The level of help they are given sometimes is not enough. Many of the players spoke and said their piece.
“Now we will need some real leadership, a little coexistence to ensure that we can do a performance that will make everyone feel much better, much better.
“There is nothing that can say now that it makes someone feel better. We must assure us and show that we want to create something here (in Rangers) and be a suitable team.”
