They once defined American animation, but for the past 30 years, the Looney Tunes has slowly faded from the media landscape, with whole generations that know them mostly Space jam. It all changed following the news that David Zaslav, CEO of Warner Bros Discovery, gives shadow the live-acting hybrid comedy Coyote vs acmeCould also be the words triggered to activate the long-suffering fanbase. Grabbing the moment, a tubi has stepped up as an unlikely Savior, venturing not only the criminal underachievement of 2011 Looney Tunes showBut over 700 episodes of Looney Tunes original shorts, most of them have never been able to stream.
Starting with “Smile, Ya, Smile,” in 1931 featuring Foxy, the average tubi collection bundles, on average, are three shorts into 22 -minute episodes. It covers the evolution of American animation of musical shorts of the 30s and 40s to bug and daffy heights of the 40s through the 60s, ending with a collection of shorts from 2003.
It was a crime against art for Warner Bros to sit on this treasury without making it available to the public. Now the question for fans is where to start exploring the collection?
One of my personal favorites growing up, “Tortoise is beating a hare” From 1941, included in Chapter 63 of Tubi’s Looney Tunes Collection. In this repetition of the classic legend, Bugs Bunny undertakes the turtle’s cecil in a race, but he is slowly mad when “Cecil” still appears ahead, no matter how fast he runs. Raising Barricade? Cecil there. Remove a bridge? Cecil there.
Cecil is shown calling all his friends and turtle relatives, who band together to drive bugs crazy during the whole short, which is beautifully called out by one of the tortoises during a fourth wall break. The short reminds us that Bunny Bugs is also a kind of grink, so seeing him goes nuts and get his arrival very funny and satisfactory. Not my choice for the best short, but as a starting point, it’s a great introduction to what I consider the best years of the franchise.
Pound for Pound, my favorite episode in the Tubi collection is Episode 158 containing 1953 shortsDuck at Amuck/Sip along/Duck Dodgers in the 24th ½ century”Revealing with the first short,“ Duck Amuck, ”stands out as my personal choice for the best short.
He starts with Daffy as one of the three Musicians, and quickly declares to a surreal cartoon with the animator torturing Daffy by re -drawing the world around him. To say that this was breaking, the fourth wall would be an undergaritation.
From a minute one, the fourth wall ceases to exist as the growing row between Daffy and the unprecedented animator, until he flies a plane to a mountain and is blown up by a artillery shell, combining slapstick comedy with a streak of philosophical fusing about the nature of reality.
The episode also includes a road runner and Wile E. Coyote Classic, where you can’t help but feel a little bad for the Coyote, even if it’s trying to eat the road runner. It reminds that Coyote vs acme A great concept for a film, and why fans can’t wait for her to finally be released thanks to Ketchup Entertainment, the studio that was also behind the recent small -scale hit, The day the earth blew upIts basis, “Duck Dodgers in the 24th ½ century” is also part of this collection.
Includes Parodi Daffy Duck of Buck Rogers, the short also sets him against Marvin the Martian for the first time, like the two battles over Planet X. It is a non-stop battle between the two, trying to exceed the other with more explosives and more elaborate weapons in willing sci-fi Series and Novels of the Music of the Age. Like most Daffy’s appearances, the fun when watching it does not win; He watches him loses.
A tubi collection is filled with hundreds of shorts that are sure to be someone’s new favorite, from the first appearances of pork pig, to Sylvester and Tweety, Speed Gonzalez, and even Foghorn Leghorn, it’s a time capsule why Looney Tunes is considered an integral part of animation history. Thanks to the ground, efforts led by the fan to save the Lony tunes, a new generation will have to appreciate the timeless appeal of the whole gang.
The best part is that the entire collection is available to stream for Free on tubiwith no registration.
