“Parole Commissioner Robert Barton thought to deny Erik Parole from the beginning! This was a complete setup, and Erik never stood a chance! 😡 #injustice,” Tammi divided in X Post on Thursday, August 21, shortly after Erik, 54, was rejected parole during a hearing.
In a Subsequent PostTammi wrote, “Erik has had no cuts since 2011, apart from mobile phone possession,” referring to the Lead Parole Commissioner Robert BartonThere are allegations on Thursday that Erik has not been an exemplary prisoner. “
Weekly US reached out to the California parole hearings board and the California Correction and Rehabilitation section for comments.
During Thursday’s hearing, Barton identified various prison offenses while Erik was jailed, including inappropriate behavior with visitors, drug smuggling, state computing misuse, violent chapters in 1997 and 2011 and possession of a mobile phone, per News.
Erik’s family and Lyle’s brother responded to Thursday’s decision in a pre -written statement obtained by News. “Although we respect the decision, the result today was of course disappointing and not what we were hoping for,” said the family. “But our belief in Erik remains unwavering and we know it will take the board’s recommendation in progress. Erik and Lyle, 57, were convicted of first degree murder in 1996 following the deaths of their parents 1989, José and Kitty Menendezat their family’s home in Beverly Hills. The brothers admitted that they killed their parents but claimed self-defense and claimed to have been abused by their father.
The brothers are reinstalled In May following a renewed interest in their case following the release of a Netflix’s drama and documentary for the murders. Their sentences were changed to 50 years live, making them eligible for parole.
However, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman Called for Erik and Lyle to remain imprisoned.
“The Menendez brothers have never accepted responsibility for the horrific murders of their parents, continuing to promote a false narrative of self-defense rejected by the jury decades ago,” he said in statement On Wednesday, August 20, before the parole hearings. “We have constantly opposed their release because they have not shown full insight into their crimes or have shown that they have been fully rehabilitated, and therefore continue to pose a risk to society.”
