Former President Sri Lanka arrested

Police said former President Sri -Lanka Ranil Wickemside was arrested in connection with allegedly abuse.

The prosecution concerns the trips he acted abroad while acting president.

On Friday, he must appear in the Magistrate’s court in Kolomo, already gave a statement to the Department of Criminal Investigations (CID) earlier that day.

Wicremesinghe served as president from 2022 to 2024, joining the role after the worst economic crisis of the country caused a popular uprising caused by the escape of the Gothaba Rajapak.

He is widely attributed to help return the island nation on the way to economic recovery.

Wicremesinghe also served six separate terms as Prime Minister of the 1990s.

According to BBC Sinhala, a 76-year-old guy made 23 foreign trips during the president, worth more than 600 million rubles ($ 2 million; 1.4 million pounds).

The arrest on Friday is related to a stop made in the UK in 2023, on the WickRemesinghe back from the G77 summit in Cuba, AFP AFP reports.

On this occasion, he and his wife studied at the University of Vulverhampton.

CID Sri Lanka claims that it was a private visit for which public funds were used – something that refused WickRemesinghe.
