Ukrainian held in Italy over Blast Mystery of Nord Stream gas pipelines

German prosecutors say a Ukrainian man was arrested in Italy on suspicion of undermining the northern flow gas pipelines near the Baltic Sea, a few months after the start of a full -scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

The man, identified only as Sergius K, was arrested in the province of Rimini and was part of a group that put explosives under the flow of Nord 1 and Nord Stream 2 pipelines from Russia to Germany, federal prosecutors note.

The Ukrainian is suspected that he is one of the inspirers of the operation, which provided a yacht schedule and swimming from the German Rostak port.

Ukraine denied the explosions that broke the key source of natural gas for Europe.

Although Nord Stream 2 has never been put into operation, two Nord Stream 1 pipelines provided a stable 1200 km (745 mile) supply from the Russian coast to northeast Germany.

Shortly before Russia, Germany canceled its process to approve Nord Stream 2, which 100% belonged to the Russian gas giant Gazprom. A few months later, Russia closed Nord Stream 1.

Then, on September 26, 2022, several bombings were recorded near the Danish island of Bornholm, which rupture three out of four pipelines.

The mystery surrounded the identity of the disco – however, last year German reports suggested that the team of Ukrainian divers hired a German yacht and sailed to the Baltic to attack the pipelines.

German prosecutors issued an arrest warrant nicknamed VolodyMyr Z in August last year.

They said the suspect, which took place in Roman, would be brought to the judge after he was extradited from Italy.

Prosecutors said the man was “strongly suspected of the joint explosion and sabotage that undermines the Constitution.”

So far, there is no evidence connecting Ukraine, Russia or another state to the assault.
