Prince Harry and Meghan Markle criticize Meta for its fact-checking policy


Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have joined the ranks of those unhappy with Meta changes to fact checking and have released a statement saying the changes “directly threaten freedom of speech.”

“Meta’s changes to its ‘Hate Content Policies’ do not protect free speech, but foster an environment where hate speech is abused and silenced and threatens the voices of entire communities that constitute a healthy democracy,” they wrote.

They also called Meta’s plans to abandon its DEI commitments.

Meghan took to Instagram a few weeks ago after that delete their social media accounts in 2018. He is said to have had before “constructive conversations” with Meta executives about online safety after she spoke about the online abuse she has faced since marrying Harry.

Mastodon CEO Eugen Rochko call the changes “deeply troubling” and “a concern for anyone with a conscience.” Michael McConnell, co-chairman of Meta’s supervisory board, also expressed concernadding that the supervisory board was not consulted on the changes.
