Waiti noted that the pop star had bid on a holiday at Palm Springs after a year of dating.
ORA offered more details about the offer during the June 2025 appearance on the “Start again” A podcast, revealing that she had wedding bands made in secret to surprise her husband.
“I didn’t want (the rings) to be too flash,” he remembered. “I got bands that have something very personal (inscribed on them) inside, just that we know about them. I just did the whole thing!”
The couple was in Los Angeles at the time, so Ora rented a “extremely nice, fancy” hotel room in Palm Springs that filled with “balloons and a heart -shaped cake.”
“Basically, I’m doing what I would have wanted,” he said.
Ora even hired a private driver to sweep the pair to a second location following her offer, and yet the couple did not reach that far.
“It was a waste of money, that piece,” he admitted humorously.
Ora went on, “I hold a bloody cake and the balloons are around us. … Anyway, I’m going down on one head -gin … I’m always excited about doing things out of the norm! ”
The singer “Let you love me” explained that she never likes to be “boring,” so it was natural that it would be the one to pop the question for waiti.
“No one is more than Taika who loved (the surprise). He loved every minute of him,” he remembered. “Like, it’s Leo, so it’s all about it!”
Ora admitted that she wasn’t really sure whether waiti would accept her wedding offer or not, even after going to so much trouble.
“He has his own story with his experiences, in that sense,” he explained. “I was (think) very much, ‘Maybe he’s not! Maybe it’s okay to be in a relationship,’ who was fine with me too. But I wanted to lock it down! And I did, and said, ‘absolutely!’
Waititi and Ora tied the knot in Los Angeles in August 2022.
