In the 33rd match of the Big Bash League (BBL) 14 between Perth Scorchers and Sydney Thunder, Copper Connolly of the Scorchers claimed the wicket award of Sam Billings. Connolly celebrated the wicket in a unique and fun way, which quickly became a highlight of the first innings, grabbing everyone’s attention.
The moment came during the ninth over of the Sydney Thunder innings. Connolly hit a deceptive slider that proved too much for Billings, who had been struggling to find rhythm on a two-pace pitch. Pulling back to force the ball offside, Billings misjudged the delivery, which skidded off the surface and hit top leg. The dismissal ended Billings’ moderate innings with 8 runs off 18 balls.
What followed after the dismissal was a celebration that became the talking point of the match. Connolly, with an air of confidence, mimed by drawing a bow and shooting an arrow with his hands, a creative and energetic way to mark the crucial wicket. The gesture not only showed Connolly’s personality, but also brought an element of entertainment to the game, earning him praise from fans and commentators.

Despite taking just one wicket, Connolly was very effective with the ball. His four-over spell was a masterclass in control and precision, conceding just 16 runs at an impressive economy rate of 4.00. The young all-rounder’s performance was instrumental in containing the Sydney Thunder score in the opening innings of the match, showing his potential as a rising star in the league.
Batting first, the Sydney Thunder managed a modest total of 158 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Constas himself he emerged as the team’s leading scorer, contributing 53 resistant runs. However, none of the other batsmen managed to reach a half-century, with the Thunder struggling to cope with the disciplined bowling attack of the Perth Scorchers.
The Perth Scorchers bowlers were relentless, with Lance Morris leading the charge. Morris delivered a stellar performance, claiming three crucial wickets and keeping the pressure on the Thunder batsmen.
