Craig Melvin is stepping into a new role in Today after being part of the morning show family since 2018.
After Hoda Kotb announced her departure from Today in September 2024, Melvin was named as the new coach of the morning show side by side Savannah Guthrie. Melvin revealed in November 2024 that he was “beyond excited and grateful” to take over for Kotb.
“I, obviously, want to thank NBC and the people here who considered me worthy,” he said at the time. “I have enjoyed only a lifetime of blessings, and this is the latest in a long series of blessings.”
News of Melvin’s new role It was well received at the office, a source said exclusively Us Weekly. “Craig is so great, people were cheering when they got the staff email,” said an insider. “He’s the best – everyone is so excited for him.”
The source added that Melvin makes sense as Kotb’s replacement. “He’s been ‘Steady Eddie’ for seven years – alongside Savannah and Hoda,” added the insider. “It was the right choice, the clear choice, the choice that everyone could support. He is so adorable.”

When Is Craig Melvin’s 1st Day as Coach Today?
Days after Kotb’s last appearance as a coangor forward TodayMelvin will begin his new role alongside Guthrie on Monday, January 13.
“Craig, I mean, I’m so happy for you,” Kotb said through tears on the Friday, January 10, episode. Today. “You have earned this. This is yours. And come Monday at 7:00 am, I’m going to be dead asleep but you’re going to be great. You’re going to bring it home. Craig, you’re going to be so good.”

Is Craig Melvin Co-Hosting the 4th Hour?
Melvin will not be taking over as co-host of the fourth hour alongside Jenna Bush Hager. While the show finds a replacement for Kotb, the fourth hour will be renamed as Today With Jenna and Her Friends and will include a lineup of rotating co-hosts.
