Montgomery Shot to Stardom with his role as Billy Hargrove’s Strangersbut Hollywood left at the height of his fame. Now, he returns to the spotlight and explains the reason for his hiatus.

In spite of his success with StrangersMontgomery has stepped away from acting mainly since he left the series in 2022, having appeared in the movies only Better watch out (2017), The gallery of the broken hearts (2020) and Elvis (2022). Its upcoming movie Went up the hillIn theaters on Friday, August 15, indicating that he is returning to the industry.
“I’m not trying to compete with anyone else, I live my truth and hope I can pay the rent as I do,” explains Montgomery.
He continued, “I’ve put a piece of myself to every role I’ve played and that’s largely why I’ve taken time off. Recently, there has been a lot of personal reflection about what I want in my career. I’m trying to earn a little more control over where and what I’m working on.”

NetflixIn addition to his role in Went up the hillhe is also about to star in and make his first appearance director in the upcoming play The engagement party. However, he told The Daily Telegraph In 2024 he was planning to stay behind the camera for the movie initially.
“I’m not looking for this to be an engine for my acting career at all,” Montgomery said at the time. “I want to direct, and I’m serious about directing, so I’m taking it seriously and not trying to use it as something else.”
Montgomery is not expected to appear in Strangers Season 5, which has been slated to be shown for the first time in November. However, he told Screenwriter on August 6 he was exciting for series creators Matt duffer and Ross Duffer to exclude the show.
“I’m more exciting than nothing for him to end the Duffer brothers, because I know they have so many other amazing stories they were, years ago, telling me about them,” he said. “I’m like, ‘Boys, you haven’t had the bandwidth to do this project.’ So, that’s my most exciting thing.
She also told the outlet he wanted to see where Sink, 23, takes her career.
“She is such a talented actress who has had some amazing opportunities over the past few years,” he continued. “I’m really, above all, just wants to see her continue to make so many cool performances outside StrangersBecause I just think it’s so talented, so professional, so driving – all those kinds of things. “
