Prime Minister Sir Keir St. Strmer welcomed Ukrainian President Valodimir Zelensky for Downing Rate for private discussions.
The couple met ahead of the vital summit in Alaska between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday to discuss the end of the war in Ukraine.
Sir Keir said he believed that there is a “viable chance” of ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, and emphasized the “territorial integrity” of Ukraine, and the international boundaries “should not change force”.
Zelensky and other European leaders who are not present at the Alaska meeting on Wednesday held a joint call with Trump to confirm their position again.
A red track was deployed to visit Zelensky, and it was drawn through the Downing Street Garden with the Prime Minister at a carefully coordinated UK support exhibition scheduled for just 24 hours before Alaska.
No leader expressed any expectation journalists.
The Kremlin announced that Putin and Trump would hold a joint press conference after the meeting on Friday night.
Last week Trump warned that there could be “some replacement of territories to improve both” Bringing fears Ukraine may have to give up some areas to end the bloody conflict.
Moscow wants to maintain control over the land it confiscated, including Crimea, while Ukraine insisted that the removal territory would be inadmissible.
Russia also wants to assure that Ukraine will not join the NATO military alliance and the border of its army.
In another development, a visit to the US Vice President JD Vance said Trump’s mission is “again to bring peace to Europe”.
Addressing the virtual meeting of European leaders after calling with Trump, Sir Kire said that “any ceasefire should be durable, and security guarantees will be required in order to hold out.”
“That’s why we created this coalition,” he added.
The coalition is a group of mainly European countries that have pledged to provide military support to Ukraine – including potentially boots on Earth – to stop Russia from violating any agreed peaceful transactions.
Sir Keir said the coalition was “reliable” military plans that could be used in case of ceasefire.
He said the group leaders were also ready to strengthen economic pressure on Russia if necessary, by increasing sanctions.
He also praised Trump’s efforts to reach an agreement, saying: “For three and built -in years, this conflict has continued, and we have nowhere near the prospect of actually viable solution, a viable way to bring it to ceasefire.
“Now we have such a chance, from the work that the president put.”
Sir Alex Junner, head of Mi6 between 2014 and 2020, said today the BBC Radio 4 program: “It is true that Donald Trump is the only one who can decide,” but he warned: “Putin plays him.”
“They all talk about the wrong thing,” he said, adding that the strategy of dumping bilateral relations with Russia is a “full fantasy” that did not recognize Putin’s goal about Ukraine’s “complete subordination”.
“It is not about the territory, but about sovereignty and whether Ukraine exists – and Putin is determined that it should not.”
Vnes is currently in a private family holiday in the UK, and also joined the call with Sir Keir and other European leaders on Wednesday.
Later this evening, he issued an address to Raf Fairford in Glostershire in US troops located in the UK.
The vice president said that in both countries there was a “beautiful union” and that the United States worked with our UK friends to achieve great victories “over the last 100 years.
“It is not just about going to war, and it’s not only won when we do,” Vens added.
“When we fight together, when we make it clear that we always approach each situation with open hand – but when everything goes bad, we are ready to do what we need to do, we are facilitating peace and well -being around the world.”
Following the call with European leaders, Trump told a press conference, there is a possibility of meeting between Putin and Zelensky.
He said he would use his original meeting with Putin to “find out where we are and what we are doing”, adding: “We will have a short second meeting between President Putin and President Zelensky and me if they want to have me there.”
He also warned Putin that he would face “very serious consequences” if he disagrees to end the war after the summit on Friday.
Zelensky, who joined the call while in Berlin to meet with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, said the US was ready to continue supporting Ukraine and accused Russia of peace.
“Putin cannot deceive us,” he said.
