Oklahoma qb blames suspicious Venmo payments on ‘jokes inside’

Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer Tried to explain suspicious payments from his Venmo account allegedly associated with sports gambling.

Screenshots began circulating on social media on Monday, August 11, who are alleged to show payments from a Mateer Personal Venmo account labeled “Gambling Sport” in November 2022. “I understand the seriousness of the issue, but acknowledge that those Venmo descriptions, taken out of his joint, suggest otherwise,” Mateer continued. “I can assure my fellow players, coaches, and officials in the NCAA that I have not participated in any sports gambling.”

Athletes are not allowed to bet on any NCAA sports. Athletes found to have gambled on college sports may face the loss of competence.

Officials at the University of Oklahoma became aware of the alleged Venmo payments on Monday night and are planning an official investigation, back Espnat.

Mateer has “denied mercilessly” the gambling allegations, per Oklahoma9 City News Director of Sport, Toby Rowland.
