Oklahoma quarterback John Mateer Tried to explain suspicious payments from his Venmo account allegedly associated with sports gambling.

Screenshots began circulating on social media on Monday, August 11, who are alleged to show payments from a Mateer Personal Venmo account labeled “Gambling Sport” in November 2022. It is alleged that both transactions had been made to Venmo’s account Richard RoatenHe is thought to be a team for Mateer’s at Washington State at the time.
It is alleged to have referred to a single payment from Mateer to Roaten between USC and UCLA, two schools that were then conference friends with Washington State in the former PAC-12.
Mateer transferred to the University of Oklahoma in December as a General Player No. 1 at ESPN transfer portal sites.
“I understand the seriousness of the issue, but acknowledge that those Venmo descriptions, taken out of his joint, suggest otherwise,” Mateer continued. “I can assure my fellow players, coaches, and officials in the NCAA that I have not participated in any sports gambling.”
Athletes are not allowed to bet on any NCAA sports. Athletes found to have gambled on college sports may face the loss of competence.
Officials at the University of Oklahoma became aware of the alleged Venmo payments on Monday night and are planning an official investigation, back Espnat.

Mateer has “denied mercilessly” the gambling allegations, per Oklahoma9 City News Director of Sport, Toby Rowland.
