It Texas Longhorns won first place in preseason voting AP Top 25 For the first time in the history of the program, the Penn State Nitany Lions was wiped out of only five points, making it the closest preseason poll by 27 years. Texas received a total of 25 votes first, while Penn State received 23 votes in the first place. The Longhorns beat the Nitany Lions in the ranking 1,552 points to 1,547.
“This is a new year, new faces, a new team and obviously expectations are high for our program,” Said Longhorns’ main coach Steve Sarkisian. “I am not naive for this. I do not put my head in the sand and expectations are very high. But I also say that we are the University of Texas, and that the rule is the rule here, and this competes for the championships year after year.”
The camps that reigned, the state of Ohio, took third place in the AP vote. This occurs after the notre Dame Fighting Irish was defeated at the 2025 34-23 National Football Playoff Championship.
“This team has its own identity,” said Ryan Day, Buckeyes’ lead coach. “He wants to have his own identity, but he also wants to be the first state team of Ohio to win attached national championships.”
One of the biggest games of the season will take place in less than three weeks, when Texas and Ohio State face the Ohio Stadium. Last year, the Buckeyes defeated the Longhorns in the semifinals of the College Playoff 28-14.
The same weekend there will be two other important matches. At 7:30 pm EDT of August 30, Clemson’s number 4 will host #9 LSU. The next day, the number 6 Notre Dame is on the road to the face at number 10 in Miami.
Clemson and Georgia completed the top five. After that, Notre Dame took sixth place, followed by Oregon, Alabama, LSU and Miami. Other prominent programs for cracking the Top 25 of the preseason include Michigan (#14), Florida (#15), Oklahoma (#18), Texas A & M (#19) and Tennessee (#24).
Ten teams from the South -East Conference (Sec) won a place among the top 25. In the meantime, the ten grains have six programs. The AP poll also has four major teams and three ACC. The last two programs included are Notre Dame and the Boise State Bronchos, which occupy the 25th place.

The regular university football season 2025-26 begins on August 23 with five games, including a first game between Kansas State and Iowa State. This game will begin the regular season at 12:00 EDT.
