Ecuador’s nightclub kills eight people

Police said eight people were killed in Ecuador’s nightclub and three more injured.

Authorities were summoned to Santa -Lussia in the early morning on Sunday, where they found seven people who had already died after the militants opened fire. The eighth man died at the hospital.

Police said the motif of firing remains unclear.

Santa -Lussia is a small town in Guais coastal province, one of four provinces under emergency in an attempt to stop the gang violence.

Among the deceased was the owner of the nightclub, who was the brother of Santa -Lucia Ubald Urkviz, AFP and local media reports.

Local self -government page on Facebook expressed condolences to the mayor after the death of his brother, writing “We join our grief with respect and solidarity, raising our prayers so that they can find the strength and comfort at this difficult time.”

The shooting is the last in a number of rigid attacks in Guaas. Nine People shot dead in the pool July 19, and another one 17 were killed in the bar July 27.

Ecuador President Daniel Nobo has declared war with a gang crime in January 2024, but the violence continued despite an increase in military presence.

Official figures claim that 4 051 murder was recorded between January to May 2025.

According to state data, the country sees 70 percent of the total cocaine, which is produced in the world, passes through its ports.
