After spending so long in development hell, The Flash really come and gone in 2023 huh? Warner Bros. of course put a a lot of effort to make sure people knew it was coming, but the public in the end he bounced it is quite hard in the middle of a year superhero movies fizzling in theaters.
To the director Andy Muschiettithe biggest failure of the film is that it has not completely found its audience. In a translated interview with Argentinian outlet Radio TU, he said that it was not a proper “4 quadrant” film: one that appealed to the male and female demographics both above and below the age of 25. “When you spend 200 million dollars to make a movie, Warner wants to bring your grandmother to the theaters, and The Flash he failed in this,” he explained. And while he acknowledges that other factors could have played a hand in things, such as a case of superhero fatigue that year and the troubling allegations surrounding the main actor. Ezra Miller at the time, he didn’t hear much of the audience caring about the Scarlet Speedster, “especially two female dials,” supported by box office reports at the time it revealed its demographic division leaning heavily towards men.

Each had their own individual reasons for avoiding it the lightning, be it everything that surrounds it Miller or just thinking it didn’t look like a dating display. The few people who don’t care about The Flash are… well, the CW’s long-running show (which wrapped up weeks before the film of the film) put aside that in bed. What Muschietti probably means is that audiences won’t care for the DCEU version, which is also a problem with the movies. Miller’s interpretation of Barry Allen has cool action piecesbut there wasn’t really anything to make people care about him like they did (and still do) with the other collection of characters from the universe, or future heroes like Green Lantern.
The Flash’s cinematic future is currently up in the air right now, ditto for any DC character that isn’t Superman or Muschietti’s Brave & the Bold. But if and when the speedster returns, maybe make a version of him people so it’s not just cribbe from Tom Holland’s Spider-Man?
