The defense of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Saint Lucia Kings, has announced a new captain for next season. David Wiese, who has played in South Africa and Namibia, will replace FAF du Pessis as a patron saint for the 2025 edition of the Caribbean Premier League.
FAF du Pessis retired from the CPL 2025 season, quoting personal reasons. He played for Southern Brave in the hundreds, but chose this tournament also to undergo a surgery of the groin sustained in the IPL. The batter wanted to use the August window so that the recovery is adapted to the SA20 by the end of this year.

“Thanks to the kings of Saint Llúria and all fans for your belief and support. It is a great honor to direct this team,” Wiese said in a statement by Saint Luke of Kings. “I am absolutely humble to be named your captain. This season we will play with passion, heart and unity.
“You will see that we give everything and for you. And the fans, we need you with us to pack the stadiums, raise the vibration and paint Saint Lucia Blue. Let’s make this a special season,” he added.

The main coach Daren Sammy welcomed Wiese’s appointment as captain. Sammy stated that Wiese has had a long -term association with the team over the years. He expressed his excitement for the next season, especially the house workshop on August 23.
“David Wiese has been part of the family for a long time. He has been with us for several years and has performed some excellent performances,” said Sammy.
“We can’t wait to start our first home game on August 23.We know that Saint Lucia Kings are the best fans and you will leave Daren Sammy Cricket Ground and paint it blue, as you support our new captain and our team,” he added.
David Wiese played a key role in the Kings title winning campaign last season
David Wiese has been a key player for Santa Lucia Kings since joining in 2021. He scored 121 runs at a strike of 168 and took 13 doctors with a economy less than 8.5 during his 2024 title victory.
Namibian All-Rounder scored 338 runs and took 36 doctors at 26 CPL games for the kings. Above all, Wiese is the first full -time franchise captain of a nation associated in the test landscape league.
