After branding the “worst mother in Australia”, but now he is considered a victim of one of the greatest miscarriages, Kathleen Folbig offered $ 2 million (975.580 pounds, $ 1.3 million) in compensation for 20 years of illegal prison.
Ms Folbig was convicted of the death of four babies in 2003, but was released in 2023 after the trial of their case, finding that they may have died of a genetic state.
Legal experts have estimated that a 58-year-old guy could count on one of the highest compensation in Australia’s history, up to $ 10 million.
However, on Thursday, Mrs. Folbig’s lawyer said the government offered $ 2 million, which they called “deeply unfair and unfair”.
“The proposed amount is a moral admiration – it is terribly insufficient and ethically unjustified,” the Reho’s statement said.
“The system did not receive Kathlebig again.”
In his statement, the Prosecutor General of Novy South Wales, Michael Dale, said the decision was based on “careful and broad” examination of Ms Folbigg’s statement on compensation.
“At the request of Ms Folbigg, the Attorney General and the government did not agree to publicly discuss the details of the decision.”
Four children’s children Ms Folbig – Caleb, Patrick, Sarah and Laura – each died suddenly between 1989 and 1999 at the age of 19 days and 18 months.
Prosecutors in her court claimed that she strangled them, relying on indirect evidence – including Mrs. Folbig’s diaries – to draw her as an unstable mother, prone to rage.
In 2003, she was sentenced to 40 years in prison for killing Sarah, Patrick and Laura, as well as the murder of the colleague, later reduced to 30 years.
Ms Folbig always supported her innocence, and in 2023 a significant investigation into her case revealed that her children could die of natural reasons because of the incredibly rare gene mutations.
Ms Rego said the payment proposed by Ms Folbig did not take into account the suffering she survived.
“When Lindy Cemberlen was released in 1994, she received $ 1.7 million in three years of imprisonment,” she said, referring to another mother, falsely convicted of murder after her child’s daughter was taken from Dingo.
“Kathlein Folbig spent two decades in prison, but she was offered $ 2 million for illegal imprisonment.”
Following the release of the forensic criminalist Ksante Malletta informed the Australian broadcast corporation that it would not be surprised if the compensation was compared to $ 10 million.
Meanwhile, Professor Gary Edmond of the University of NSW told The Guardian Australia that the payment of Ms Folbig’s compensation “should be” the largest in the country’s history.
Other local media reported that it could get losses of up to $ 20 million.
