Erik Menéndez returned to prison after being temporarily Transferred to San Diego Hospital Last month about what his lawyer described as a “serious medical condition,” TMZ reports.
“My dad is out of hospital and back in prison, preparing for our upcoming parole hearing,” Erik Llyser, Talia menéndezDivided through Instagram stories over the weekend, according to the outlet.
Talia previously shared in late July that Erik, 54, had been admitted to hospital to treat the painful stones of kidneys. “Today Erik got his second surgery because of complications with both kidneys having several big stones,” he wrote through Instagram stories at the time.
On July 24, Erik’s wife, Tammsaid by X that Erik had two surgeries and expected a third.
“Today Erik had a 2nd surgery. This surgery was successful. He will need a 3rd surgery that will hopefully happen soon,” wrote Tammi. “Because Erik is in prison there are many complications and delays with surgery. Tonight he remains nausea and in pain however he gets better after surgery.”
He added, “We thank everyone for their wishes and prayers well. Complications occur in surgery but this is a stressful time for us. In addition, we are grateful to custody and CRT medical staff who made their best during this difficult situation.”
On July 22, Erik’s attorney and her brother Lyle Menéndez, Mark GeragosHe told TMZ that Erik was experiencing a medical crisis, although he did not elaborate further on the exact state of Erik.
“I do not want to leave the cat out of the bag. Erik is currently having a serious medical condition. I am not going to go against Hipaa’s privilege or an attorney client, but if anyone should be fugged – especially at the moment a month before the hearing – Eric,” said Geragos, pleading with California Gov. Gavin Newsom to release Erik from prison.
“It’s a serious condition and I think he needs to be out to focus on the hearing,” he added. “I don’t want to get into the weeds of the medical condition, but I think that’s the appropriate thing to do.”
Erik and Lyle, 57, are currently imprisoned in Richard J. Donovan’s corrective facility in San Diego, California, after being convicted of 1989 the murders of their parents. José and Kitty Menéndez. The pair were convicted of first degree murder in 1996 and were initially sentenced to life in prison without parole.
However, after their case attracted new attention, thanks in part to the True-Crime Netflix drama series Monsters: The story of Lyle and Erik MenéndezThe brothers were named in May to 50 years live, making them now eligible for parole under the law of California youth offenders.
Erik and Lyle are supposed to go before a Parole Board during a two -day hearing on August 21 and 22.
