Brett Favre speaks out on bill to keep trans athletes out of women’s sports: ‘Clear biological difference’

NFL Hall of Famer Brett Favre made his position clear on a bill moving through Congress that would bar transgender athletes from participating in women’s and women’s sports.

Favre posted a Fox News interview with Sage Steele and Riley Gaines on X Friday that mentions Sen. Tommy Tubervilleof Alabama, for introducing the Women and Girls in Sports Protection Act to bar transgender athletes from women’s sports across the country.

“Good for those officials who are trying to fix it. There is a clear biological difference between men and women,” Favre said in the caption of the video.

Tuberville’s measure would keep it which deals with Chapter IX gender as “recognized solely on the basis of a person’s reproductive biology and genetics at birth” and does not adjust it to apply to gender identity. It prohibits federal funding for athletic programs that allow biological males to participate in women’s and girls’ sports.

This applies to biological men and boys who identify as transgender and strive to participate in events and leagues for women and girls.

The event was co-sponsored by 23 Republican senators.

This is not the first time Favre has spoken out about transgender issues in women’s sports. The former NFL quarterback was up against New Zealand’s transgender weightlifter Laurel Hubbard, who became the first transgender woman to qualify for the 2021 Olympics.

Hubbard competed in men’s events before coming out as transgender in 2013.

“This is a man competing as a woman,” Favre said on an episode of his then-defunct podcast. “It’s not fair. It’s not fair to the man, even if that man wants to be a woman or feels forced to. If you want to be the opposite sex, that’s fine. I have no problem with that. But you can’t compete with … males can’t compete with females.

“If I was a real woman – I can’t believe I’m saying this – and I was competing in weightlifting and I lost to this man, I would be beside myself.”

In this episode of the podcast, Favre also spoke out against transgender BMX rider Chelsea Wolfe, who was selected as an alternate in Team USA’s freestyle BMX competition. Wolfe was accused of talking about the burning of the American flag on the podium on social media. Fox News Previously reported on Digital.

Favre said Wolfe should not be allowed to compete.

“I wouldn’t want her competing in my Olympics. Go compete for someone else,” Favre said. “To say that this is such a slap to our country. I can’t believe that this man can be allowed to compete for our country.

“She should be banned.”

Favre has previously worked with members of the LGBTQ community, including gay former NFL player Ezer Tuaola. Favre appeared on Tuaolo’s podcast in 2020 to discuss a head injury from playing football.

However, some also accused Favre of exhibiting anti-transgender behavior during the 2015 ESPY Awards. During the show, Caitlyn Jenner took the stage to accept the Arthur Ashe Courage Award while Favre slowly clapped. The nature of Favre’s slow clap drew backlash from some LGBTQ fans on social media.

But today’s polls show that a majority of Americans oppose the inclusion of transgender people in women’s sports, which was a key campaign issue for Donald Trump and other Republicans in the last cycle.

Nearly 70% of Americans say biological males should not be allowed to participate in women’s sports, reports Gallup poll last year.

Poll in June conducted by NORC at the University of Chicago asked respondents to discuss whether transgender athletes of both sexes should be allowed to compete in sports leagues that match their preferred gender identity instead of their biological sex.

Sixty-five percent said it should never or rarely be allowed. When asked specifically about transgender adult athletes participating in women’s sports, 69% were against it.

A national exit poll by the Caucus of Concerned Women in America (CWA) found that 70% of moderate voters see a problem with “Donald Trump’s opposition to transgender boys and men playing women’s and women’s sports, and to transgender boys and men used girls’ and women’s restrooms “as important to them.

And 6% said it was the most important issue of all, while 44% said it was “very important.”
