Chile rescuers continue to look for four miners who fell into the mine, which fell apart after the earthquake two days ago after a friend’s body was found.
Codelco’s state campaign said human remains were found at the El Teniente Copper Mine, about 70 km (43 miles) southeast of the Santiago capital.
The firm says the lifeguard’s efforts are ongoing. The fate of the other four employees is unclear.
The collapse of some underground tunnels of the mine was caused by the Magnetic tremor 4.2 on Thursday. At the time, the miners were trapped deep under the surface.
After the earthquake, one person was killed after the earthquake, with five in the mine.
Codelco said that the victim found in the mine on Saturday was still to be determined, but the families of the five captured miners were notified.
“This discovery fills us with sadness, but it also tells us that we are in the right place, that the strategy we followed has led us to them,” said the Division CEO of El Teniente Andres Music in a statement.
Rescue crews use heavy equipment, trying to clean the blocked passages to try to get to the miners.
Mr. Music said rescuers hope for a speed of 15-20 million (49-66 feet) every 24 hours.
El Teniente is the world’s largest copper mine.
It is located high in the mountains of And in Central Chile.
