In a recent interview with Guitar worldmusician Zakk Wylde He revealed the last text he received from the Late Rock Star, who died earlier this month at the age of 76. According to Wylde, Osbourne sent the message after playing his Last Black Sabbath Show in England on July 5.

“Everyone and their mother was in the backstage dressing room and I wanted to give him a break,” Wylde remembered, indicating that the two could not cross paths later in the day.

Wylde added, “The last text I got from Oz said, ‘Zakky, sorry, it was like an asylum back there. I didn’t see you.’ It’s going, ‘Thanks for everything.’ Only we were talking, saying, ‘I love you, friend.’ There we are.

The concert was a “business as usual,” Wylde remembered, adding that Osbourne’s happiness was the number 1 priority for the day.

“It was definitely pretty amazing,” he said. “Seeing Oz on stage when Sabbath was done, that was the last time I saw it.”

Wylde heard for Osbourne in 1987, following in the footsteps of the guitarist Jake E. Lee. He joined Osbourne on the way he played on a number of The Rock Legend’s albums over the years, most recently hitting the stage in Osbourne’s honor in October 2024 during the Rock and Roll Immortal Gallery Ceremony.

“Oz was just the best,” Wylde told Guitar World. “I have my dad, who was a former World War II villain; and then Ozzy, who was almost like an older brother.… We would always keep in touch.”

Wylde said that the family bond even extends to Ozzy’s wife, Sharon Osbourne. “Ozzy is the baptismal father (my) eldest son,” he continued. “Whether I was playing with him or not, if Sharon called me my wife up and said, ‘guys, can you watch the house while we’re away on a business trip?’ I’d do it. ‘If I need to bring milk and eggs over, I’ll do it.’ “
