Speaking to Sky Sports, England Captain Ben Stokes, who is out of the fifth test with an injury, said that Shubman Gill India has been a “quality” side and has provided amazing performances even in the absence of Rohit Sharma, whipped Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin. Said:
“Much was said about this side of India that arrived without Ravi Ashwin, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli: Three massive players who have burdened.
“But this team in India is quality. Look at some of the numbers of their batters and the efforts of their bowls. So I think we took very good steps. The chat we had after the New Zealand series last winter, it was great to see us implement and obtain results.”
Ben Stokes also acknowledged that the two teams have shown a great character and had an exceptional quality of the cricket. Said:
“The series has been good, the quality of the exceptional cricket. The two teams have given it all so far and I do not see that this is different.
“The unanswered pitches have been frustrating, but if you wait for everything to be in favor all the time … when you are against, it shows a lot of character of both in order to force the results.”
