Tevin Farmer revealed today that he is in talks for a rematch with undefeated lightweight contender William Zepeda.
Former IBF super bantamweight champion Farmer (33-7-1, 8 KOs) gets a second chance against Zepeda (32-0, 27 KOs) after losing to him via a 10-round split decision in November 16 at Latin night. card in Riyadh.
If this is a 12-rounder, Farmer may end up getting knocked out because he looked worn down from the eighth round from the hard body punches Zepeda was hitting him with in that fight.
The 34-year-old farmer looked exhausted and ready to be stopped. He stayed on his feet as Zepeda focused mainly on landing to the body due to the head movement Tevin was using. He was elusive, but he couldn’t make Zepeda miss the body. He lost the fight there.
Farmer and some fans felt he had done enough to get the win in that fight. The judges scored it 95-94 for Farmer, 95-94 for Zepeda and 95-94 for Farmer. Boxing News 24 scored it 9-1 for Zepeda. The judges didn’t seem to factor Zepeda’s punch into their scoring. They focused only on the headshots.
Farmer won the quarter after a quick takedown that he scored with a left hand that caught Zepeda advancing. But apart from the fourth, Zepeda dominated every round with his power punches, pressure and bodywork.
Zepeda-Farmer Punch Statistics
The rematch is seen as a constant struggle for Zepeda to keep him warm for a fight against the winner of the Feb. 22 clash between WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson and Floyd Schofield.
Zepeda likely would have been fighting Shakur next had he not suffered a hand injury. This ended his plans for a world title.
We are in talks for the Zepeda Rematch. ZEPEDA, don’t take that smoke😤
