Children love science fiction and should have plenty of films and TV shows that explore and celebrate the genre undigired by the age of the intended audience. It is pumped and selected as the film progresses, and the design behind those aesthetic decisions adds a real character to the structure. Favreau shot real models of the house for use in the film.
Add to all that art the remarkable Sci-Fi style of the 50s that inform the design decisions of the film, and you have a film with a very specific visual attitude. Favreu knows how to polish the effects and make everything feel tactile. It is a masterful touch.
Zathura script and score make so much right

It pulls the story down to a much simpler structure than the original Jumanji by reducing the number of characters necessary.
