The latest update of Marvel Rivals removed its Mod support

Since last December, Marvel Rivals has become the new hot hero shooter. A lot of this can be due their visualsand PC players have since made skin mods that make the cast of the game non-Marvel characterslike doing Jeff the Shark in Chainsaw Man’s Pochita, or Iron Man in Dragon Ballof Vegeta.

Unfortunately, NetEase apparently killed it Marvel Rivals’ mod skin scene with the new game update. The recent arrivals of Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman were part of the game’s first season update, and players found that the update came with asset hash verification that disabled all mods on PC. As IGN note, using mods violates the shooter’s terms of use, and NetEase sells premium skins for each Rivals character on a regular basis. It’s even more ready to enforce its own rule, as it issued a statement to the outlet advising players to “(not) modify game files, as doing so carries the risk of being banned.” So for PC players, they have to look like the characters as they were made for the game.

NetEase probably printed Marvel Rivals’ mod skins because they would have killed the game’s revenue potential. The game said it made $136 million only in its launch month, but if you’re on PC, why fork over cash to see as Winter Soldier in thunderbolts* when you could be Captain America like Presidents Joe Biden or Donald Trumpor turns Black Panther in Ryan Goslingone of our hardest working white actors? The skins were removed because the rivals the community is shit to the content of his heart, and they were also stimulated by the property boom as Smile and Godzilla make their way in Call of duty and Fortnite.

Will this completely stop the mod skin scene? Probably not, but give those modders a challenge – I hope things don’t come to that War Thunder levels of ridiculousness.
