Al roker grateful to those who gave him blood during his past health affairs – especially Today coanchor Craig Melvin.
“I am a vivid example of having received those gifts during my health issues,” Roker, 70, said on the Today Show on Monday, July 28, after Melvin, 46, put Blood Live on the air to encourage others to follow in his footprint.

Apart from dealing with blood clots, roker, which has been on the Today showed for 29 years, suffered some other serious health issues including that Been diagnosed with prostate cancer in November 2020.
“It’s a kind of good-baking news of a thing,” said Roker on the Today Show at the time. “Good news is that we’re caught early. Not great news is that it’s a bit aggressive, so I’m going to be taking some time off to take care of this.”
Roker noted that he had to have surgery to remove his prostate and that Roberts, 64, was his biggest fan despite being “upset” for his diagnosis.
“Once she passed that, the reporter in her kind took over. She has been in everything ever since,” he explained, noting that he decided to go public with his diagnosis because one in seven black men are diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lives. “(I want to) let people know they have to be checked.”
After surgery to remove its prostate, lymph nodes and some surrounding tissue, Roker was considered cancer free.
