Almost eight decades after it disappeared into the World War II plane crash over Burma, the remains of A Pennsylvania Aeromak were identified by paving the path of the long -awaited burial of the hero in the national cemetery of Arlington.
In the summer of 1943, US Army 27-year-old from Philadelphia Henry J. Carlin, a 27-year-old Philadelphia guy, was among the six crew members on board B-25c “Mitchell”, which descended during the raid with low sophistication in Meistle, Burma.
Carlin’s remains and those of the other three on board were not restored after the war and they were announced missing in action.

The other two surviving crew members were captured Japanese forcessaid in the report. It is unclear whether they returned home.
Four heroes were buried in a common grave near Kuenpobin, Burma, without identification, and then flew out by the US Tomb Registration Service in 1947.
Witnesses described them only from an “American disaster” that complicates the identification process.

Bodies listed as “unknown” in Honolulu National Memorial Cemetery The Pacific were exhumed in 2022, after the Ministry of Defense approved a Pow/MIA defense request.
To determine Carlin’s remains, scientists from DPAA used teeth analysis, anthropological and radio. The system of medical expert of the armed forces also used mitochondria DNA analysis to make a positive ID, which was confirmed on April 16.
Bringing the closure of the mystery that covered the generations, Carlin’s remains will be buried in the National Cemetery of Arlington in May 2026.

Carlin’s name was recorded on the walls of the disappeared in the American Cemetery of Manila, the US Commission on the Filpin Monuments, and the rest are absent in the Second World War, DPAA reports. A socket will be placed near his name to show that it was taken into account.

Carlin served as a navigator and was a member of the 22nd Squadron Bombard (Medium), 341 Bombarding Groups (Medium), 10th Air Force.
