Robert Englund gets a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on October 31st, 2025. It is a well -deserved award for a story career but also as one of Boogeymen POP Culture landmark, Freddy Krueger. At the age of 78, he is depressing to see Englund given his flowers and probably brings his portrait of the Nightmare on Elm Street Villain in the cinema.

I love the character of Freddy Krueger and think there are infinite nightmares that you can spin from that particular idea, but looking at the bigger picture, I can only end two desire for the character: 1) Don’t make more Freddy Krueger movies. Create a new character that can be a generation boogeyman himself, or 2) new Freddy Krueger Can’t try to do what Robert Englund did with the character.

My strongest stimulus is to let Freddy Krueger character hibernate for an indefinite period of time. In that sleep, what can come from the monsters are borned in horror movies today.

Black phone 2 Bringing back the human boogeyman of the previous film, The Grabber, as a supernatural stalker in the care of Freddy Kruger. But instead of just a copy and paste job, author C. Robert Cargill and co-writer/director Scott Derrickson have their own character they can craft and play with him to include their dark hearts. I’d rather see more horror figures like the Grabber emerge to become the new faces of the genre.

But, look, I love Freddy Krueger. I do not want to live in a world where we are still not telling Freddy Krueger’s stories. The original film, A new nightmare (my favorite movie from the franchise) and the game that must be seen Freddy vs Jason related to (in very different ways) what happens when people stop having Freddy Krueger to point to their fear towards him.

So, if we have to have Freddy Krueger, what Robert Englund did the character can’t be what.

No more Robert Englund

Robert Englund took the initial role of Freddy Krueger from’s Wes Craven Nightmare on Elm Street and the character turned into an icon he built his career on him. It meant that Freddy Kreger had become a wicked hero to some extent, or at least, more charming mascot for Robert Englund. The acting of Hammy’s delicious Englund paired as perfectly as Freddy’s use as a figure of dark comic delight.

So if Freddy Kreger has just had to exist, they have to either go back to the essentials of the very first film and the essence of the character, or do something truly radical with the whole concept. You cannot try ring What brought Robert Englund to Freddy. That was part of the endless issues with the 2010 repeat, which I hate to even have to mention.

If Freddy Krueger has to continue as a pop culture figure, the next incarnation must slice their own specific path with the character. Freddy became known for one lining, but what about Freddy he never talks? Freddy was a murderer in the real world, but what if Freddy was something that only existed in dreams?

Nightmare on Elm Street

I’m sure there are plenty of young filmmakers with ideas about Freddy Krueger that I could never think about. Give them the reins! Let them run wild with radical takes, but don’t let any of those taking are led by the numerous performances of Robert Englund as the character. He carved to take it in stone and will exist forever, Boogeyman dear my nightmares.

The craft of something surprising so that we can be scared by Freddy Krueger again, and can give a whole new generation nightmares.
