Valerie Bertineli shares the emotional struggle for maintaining 18-month sobriety

Valerie Burtineli She became emotional when she opened her battle to preserve her sobriety, experiencing “emotionally excruciating feelings.”

65-year-old former food network star that has been sober since January 2024, recently accepted to Instagram Posted a few videos in which she sincerely addressed the desire to drink in a difficult time in her life.

“I have been experiencing some truly intense, uncomfortable, sad, emotionally excruciating feelings for the last few days and I want to drink. I want to numb. I don’t want to feel it,” Bertineli confessed.

“And it doesn’t make us feel better,” she continued. “What happens when we are numb, we feel bad in what we have done to numb feelings. So, it adds to what we can have about these feelings. Bertinese explained that the choice to eat healthy food, like watermelons, made her “happy”.

“Because it tastes so good, and it has vitamins, water, as well as fibers and minerals,” Bertineli said.

“And I didn’t numb my feelings,” she said, continuing to cry. “I just know what I’m sad and it’s just a feeling. It will pass. Because I’m strong and I’m good. I’m just sad now and I’m going through it and so you can’t. We don’t have to eat alcohol and eat to numb the feelings we just need to feel like these feelings.”
