After President-elect Donald Trump announcing that he hopes to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America,” a Texas congressman offered a compromise proposal the size of a Lone Star.
“Interesting compromise” Republican Rep. Dan Crenshaw published as a card caption in which the Gulf of Mexico label is replaced by an emblem of a smiling beaver wearing his trademark red cap.
His message gained some traction on social media, with one enthusiastically commenting: “Bucky’s Bay!”
Although it’s only just beginning to grow its presence in the North, the interstate gas station/gas station/country store/convenience store in Lake Jackson, Texas has developed a cult following in the South – as evidenced by the response to Crenshaw and others supporting the idea .

Known for its more than 100 gas pumps that offer rock-bottom prices that help draw crowds, Buc-ee’s has been described as a 7-Eleven “on steroids” and an “amusement park without the rides.”
The chefs can be heard regularly bellowing “Fre-e-esh brisket on the board” as they continuously refill patrons with Texas BBQ from a station in the center of the store, while cheeky billboards advertise their massive, spotless bathrooms for miles around.
The stores are also known for their mascots: “Beaver Nuggets,” a freshly made fudge, a “wall” of cured meats; recreation needs such as chairs, clothing and even meat smokers.
on tuesday Trump said he would change the name of the bay to the “appropriate” and “beautiful” American Gulf.

In response, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum posted a photo of herself in front of an 18th-century map showing much of the United States as “Mexican America” and jokingly suggested that the name be returned.
Social media has been abuzz with support for the beaver in the red hat over Crenshaw’s “Beech Bay” idea.
“I would support it,” wrote one X user.
“Buc’ees Bay gets my vote – that means a brisket sandwich and a pit stop with hundreds of clean bathrooms every 3 hours…maybe grab an iron skillet, crawfish boil or a pair of Buc’ees PJs,” another user raved of this idea.

Another commenter said they had yet to have a visit from the Buc-ees, but quipped: “I hope to be named among the blessed who have entered the gates of Brisket some day. Buc-ee Bay — I can support that.’
