Devin Haney confirms talks with Turki Al-Shiekh for a possible fight

Devin Haney revealed today that the reason he traveled to London to do his ring work was to meet with Turki Al-Shiekh for “Talk about what’s coming next.”

Fans had wondered why Haney, 26, would be training in the ring in London when he has no fights scheduled and is coming off a humiliating loss to Ryan Garcia. It didn’t make sense until now. Devin came to meet Turki, hoping to fight with one of his cards, and he probably did big money.

Turkish talks

The recently defeated Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) is looking to fight one of the undercards of Riyadh Turki’s season. However, Al-Shiekh tends to take competitive fights for his career, and that could be a bad thing for Haney because he has shown that he is weak in the chin department.

If Haney gets knocked out by whoever Turki picks for him, a rematch with Ryan Garcia will be of great interest to him. The fight could still happen, but it would be seen as a joke. Haney would be ready for scrap, seen as a hype job, which was never as good as gullible fans had thought.

His best wins were against George Kambosos, Regis Prograis and Vasily Lomachenko. As most know, Haney’s win over Lomachenko was highly controversial in a fight he seemed to lose, but won a 12-round decision in Las Vegas. Kambosos was just a flawed, low-level, hit-wonderone-hiit who built his career by defeating the confused, rusty and injured Teofimo Lopez.

Chasing payday

“I want to fight everybody. You know I don’t like set-up fights. I want to make the biggest fights happen. I want to fight the best fighter in the world. That’s one of the reasons I’m here. I’m here to meet with His Excellency Turki Al-Shiekh to discuss what’s to come,” Devin Haney told the media today at his training in London, explaining why he traveled to the UK to show off.

“Turki made an offer to Teo for much more money than his offer. He refused it for whatever reason, and that stopped the fight. It’s a fight that can still be fought. One thing I am focused on is that I want to fight on a level playing field with everyone.

“I want to be a spokesperson for clean boxing because I was the one who really experienced it. I experienced the deception and what it’s like to fight someone who’s on PEDs,” said Haney, talking about his fight with Ryan Garcia. “I want to clean up the sport of boxing. So that’s my focus as a man right now.”
