Celtic V Newcastle: Alignments, Statistics and Preview

Preview of Celtic v Newcastle

Anthony Elanga is expected that his debut in Newcastle in the Tomorrow’s preseason in Celtic.

The Elanga end joined Newcastle de Nottingham Forrest for £ 55 million last week, but did not rush to Saturday victory 4-0 on Carlisle in a closed gate match.

But it will be part of the squad flying directly from the club’s training field in the Austrian Alps in Glasgow for tomorrow’s game.

CAP Eddie Howe said of his new recruit: “The first impressions are that Anthony has fit the group very well. His personality is really strong.

“I know he knows a lot about the group, so I think he feels at home with these connections with those people, whether international or playing against them.

“He has shown his rhythm and athletics, which is a real weapon to add to the other players we have with these similar qualities, so yes, it has been a very impressive beginning.”

Howe has been working hard this week and agrees that they will probably be tired when they arrive against Scottish champions.

He added to Nutv: “We will have a single session ahead of the Celtic to try to make the boys a decent physical condition for Celtic.

“Although they will probably enter the game slightly.

“I think when you look at our preseason games, each game is a test. Carlisle was a test because they spent two weeks ahead of physical fitness.

“It was a very good job in our first game, this will be a great step due to the level of opposition and we enter Singapore and South Korea and we face Tottenham and Arsenal.”

Alexander Isak, the subject of many speculations this week, joined the squad in Austria late and will probably begin on the bench.

The Celtic is much later in its preseason preparations with the National League that began on August 2, although the Hoops begin a day later against St Mirren.

On Wednesday night they were impressive 2-0 against Sporting CP in Faro.

Cap Brendan Rodgers told Celtic TV: “Performance, it was excellent. We took another step in our idea physically and tactically with some of the players who enter.

“I thought it was generally a very good performance against a team that is really good. It’s a difficult system they play.

“Tactically, we were excellent in the game in our pressure and pressing, and in our game some of our football were excellent.

“We scored two goals and could have had more, but playing with this confidence was nice and the performance was at a good level.

“It was a very good training for us and ends a great week.”
