Beyond the Gates almost here and the highly anticipated CBS soap brings the drama, mayhem and twists.
The network released a trailer on Monday, December 16, he presented Us to the Dupree family. “Your family rules this community,” says a character in the glimpse, while another character teases, “This is going to make history. How great is that?”
According to the summary, Beyond the Gates happens in a “grand gated community” in “one of the most affluent African American counties” just outside of Washington, DC The Duprees are at the center of the show as “the very definition of Black royalty” in the luxurious Fairmont Crest community.
“At the center of this community are the Duprees, a powerful and prestigious multi-generational family that is the very definition of Black royalty,” the summary continued. “But behind these new walls and these lush, manicured gardens lie juicy secrets and scandals waiting to be revealed. And those who live outside these gates are watching carefully.”
Clifton Davies a Tunie Tamara star as the patriarch and matriarch of the family. The daytime drama also stars Daphnée Duplaix, Karla Mosley, Alex Alegria, Lauren Buglioli, Brandon Claybon, Timon Kyle Durrett, Sean Freeman, Ben Gavin a Marquita Goes. Jibre Hordges, Jen Jacob, Maurice Johnson, Trisha Mann-Grant, Mike Manning, RhonniRose Mantilla, Ambyr Michelle, Colby Muhammad a Arielle Prepetit.
Beyond the Gates makes history as the first Black soap opera in almost 35 years. The show – a joint venture between CBS Studios and the NAACP – is the first daytime soap since then. Generationswhich ended in 1991 after a 13 month run.
“The Gates will be everything we love about daytime drama, from a new and fresh perspective,” President of CBS Studios’ NAACP initiative, Sheila Ducksworthin a press release in March. “This series will address a traditionally underserved audience, with the potential to be a breakthrough moment for broadcast television. With multi-dimensional characters, juicy stories and front and center Black culture, The Gates will have effective representation, one of the key criteria of the initiative.”
Beyond the Gates it is also leaves its mark in the soap genre since the last time a new daytime show premiered in 1999 with NBC’s Passion.
The upcoming show takes The Conversationtime slot as the talk show ends after 15 seasons. CBS announced that in April The Conversation was renewed for its final season after concerns about cancellation. The network later confirmed that the final week will include a celebratory send-off in anticipation of the show’s final day on Friday, December 20.
The Conversationfirst published in 2010, created by Sarah Gilbertwho hosted the show for the first nine seasons. Her panel of co-hosts included Julie Chen Moonves, Sharon Osbourne, Holly Robinson Peete, Leah Remini a Marissa Jaret Winokur. As the forces come and go, Sheryl Underwood, Akbar Gbajabiamila, Amanda Kloots, Natalie Morales a Jerry O’Connell ends their run this month.
Beyond the Gates premieres Monday, February 24 on CBS.
