WBC light champion, Shakur Stevenson (24-0, 11 kos), was surprisingly his field tonight, winning a unanimous 12-round decision on William Zepeda (33-1, 27 kos) in his co-function struggle at Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens, New York.
The scores were 118-110, 118-110 and 119-109. These scores were disturbingly bad as they did not coincide with the struggle that took place tonight. I had the fight for Zepeda for a stop.
With Shakur who chose to fight the station, Zepeda took advantage of it by dating to the head and body all night. In the round, he searched Shakur, almost dropped him with a right to his head. Stevenson’s Punch Departure prevented him from matching all the punches.
Zepeda’s pressure eventually led Shakur to run again, and continued to do so in the last two rounds. The crowd was revealed, but Stevenson could not do much. He could not manage the volume of Zepeda. He literally had to return to his Jo Jerry.
Surprisingly, the judges did not give Zepeda their body features and focused more on the head strokes that Shakur was landing from time to time.
Punch statistics
Shakur Stevenson: 199 of 358 for 56%
William Zepeda: 153 of 501 for 31%
These statistics seemed very out because Zepeda landed much more than 153 punches tonight. Those were ridiculously poor statistics.
