He felt that Mulder lost a golden opportunity to pursue the rare 400 run -running milestone in the test cricket. Gayle called it a great gap and believed that the young south -African should have at least tried, as these opportunities are not often coming.
After the party, Mulder explained that he declared 367 out of respect for the legendary state of Brian Lara in the party. He felt the team had enough races and it was time for bowl. Mulder said that if he were given another opportunity, he would make the same decision again.
Mulder had said in a post-party interaction: “First, I thought we had enough, and we needed bowl. Secondly, Brian Lara is a legend. For someone in this stature, this record deserves. If I have the opportunity to do it again, I would do exactly the same way.”
