Ukraine accepts air defense systems in the United States, Trump says

US President Donald Trump said he would send weapons, including air defense systems for Ukraine through NATO.

Trump said NBC News that in the new deal, “we will send patriots to NATO, and then NATO will distribute it”, adding that NATO will pay for weapons.

Its announcement came after the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky told about a “positive dialogue” with Trump to ensure that the weapons came on time, in particular the air defense system.

Zelensky stated that he asked for 10 “patriots” systems, after the surge of Russian drones and missile attacks on Ukrainian cities last week.

Speaking in Rome on Thursday, the Ukrainian leader said Germany was ready to pay for two patriots and Norwegians for one and other European partners were also ready to help.

After a phone call with Russian Vladimir Putin last week, Trump said he was “not happy” that the progress was not made before the war was ended, and he had since complained that Putin’s “very pleasant” attitude was pointless.

During an interview with NBC News, Trump said he would make a “main statement” on Monday but did not say what it would be.

He said that “NATO will compensate for the full price” for the weapons sent to Ukraine. NATO is is funded by the contribution of its membersincluding the US.

US Secretary of State Mark Rubio told reporters on Friday that he called on countries, including Germany and Spain, to convey some existing patriots because they could reach Ukraine faster.

“We continue to encourage our NATO allies to provide this weapon … Because they have stocks, we can conclude financial agreements … where they can purchase replacements.”

Last week, the US Department of Defense stopped some critical weapons supplies, causing concern in Kiev that its air defense could be a few months.

Among the weapons, it was reportedly located on the pause, there were rockets “Patriot -interceptor” and “Exact artillery shells”.

Then, when Ukraine was killed by a record number of drones this week, Trump said that more weapons would be sent: “We must … They are very much hit now.”

Zelensky turned to the recovery of sending, calling the “patriots” system as “real defenders of life”.

On Tuesday evening, Ukraine was affected by a record 728 drones, and the President of Ukraine warned that Russia wants to increase it to 1000.

According to the UN, the highest monthly victims of civilian population in Ukraine were killed in June, and 232 people were killed and more than 1300 were injured, the UN reports.

Since the re -entry into the White House in January, Trump has pushed the US support scaling for Ukraine.

The US was the largest source of military assistance to Ukraine between the beginning of 2022 to the end of 2024, giving $ 69 billion (54.6 billion pounds) during this time, According to the German Analytical Center, the Kiel Institute.

Trump also pressed NATO allies to put more GDP in the security alliance. Last year, all European NATO European members promised to spend 2% defense GDP.

In February 2022, Russia launched a full -scale invasion of Ukraine. The United States has called on the two countries to reach a war termination agreement.

Rubio told reporters that he and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had a “sincere” conversation on the sidelines of a meeting in Malaysia on Thursday.

Rubio repeated “Trump’s disappointment with the lack of progress in peace talks”, including “disappointment that there was no greater flexibility on the Russian side to finish this conflict.”

He said the two shared with new ideas about how the conflict he would return to Trump could end.

Rubio refused to clarify what Trump said that it would be a “main” announcement on Russia on Monday.
