Former UFC fighter Tim Kennedy apologized after being called out for lying for his history of military achievements.
Kennedy was captured by a popular YouTube channel Valhalla vftis hosted by former beret Nathan Cornacchiashaped the fact that he ruled a bronze star with strength.
“I want to take full and unambiguous responsibility for a serious mistake,” wrote Kennedy by Instagram On Wednesday, July 9. I never received that honor. “
He continued, “That kind of recognition is sacred. It represents amazing courage under the deeds of fire that endanger or cost lives. For those who really gained it, and to their families and brothers in arms, I offer my sincere and direct apology. What I said to reluctant to your service, and I take full ownership of that.”
The bronze star is awarded with a valor to members of the armed forces who achieve a “heroic or worthy achievement or service” when fighting the Earth.
“I was young when I stepped in the public eye, and while I wasn’t prepared for the scrutiny or pressure that came with him, that doesn’t release me,” Kennedy continued. “I should have known better. Integrity is not situational, and I failed to maintain the standards I claimed to represent.”
Kennedy noted the military community in his apology, writing, “You had every right to expect more from me, and I did not live to that.”
“This apology is not the end, this is the beginning,” he concluded. “I am committed to rebuilding trust through honest reflection, visible accountability, and ongoing service to the community to which I did misrepresent myself. I will no longer talk about my service in a way that promotes me beyond what I actually did. From now on, my words will be led by truth, humility and respect.”
Kennedy served in the armed forces for nearly 20 years, becoming a green beret and even writing a book in 2022 called Scars and Stripes: an unapologetically American story of fighting the Taliban, UFC Warriors, and myself.
In addition to his military service, Kennedy has an 18-6 MMA record, including a 3-2 record at the UFC.
Kennedy last fought professionally in December 2016, a loss through TKO to Kelvin Gastelum.
