Survivors recall the moment of the Bridge collapse

On Wednesday, the Bridge collapse in Gujarat in India, which killed at least 15 people, said they initially believed that it was an explosion or an earthquake.

The reason for the collapse still needs to be clarified, and, according to state officials, investigations are underway.

Anvarbhai, who ruled a minibus, which had two more passengers, was on the bridge on Wednesday morning when he heard a deaf crack – the section of the bridge behind it fell into the Mahizagar River, taking several vehicles with him.

“There was a huge explosion, and part of the bridge collapsed behind us. Our van also started to roll back, so we quickly jumped out,” he said BBC Gujarati.

The 40-year-old bridge linked the area of ​​water to Central Gujarat and usually saw a lot of movement.

Drama visual images after the collapse showed that the truck was dangerously made from the edge of the broken bridge – later it was transferred. But other vehicles, including trucks, cars and tukuuk, plunged into the water.

At least four people are still missing, and search operations are performed.

“Our priority is to quickly check the territory and get both bodies and any survivors,” said the Surender Singh news agency, an official with the national response force.

Sonnanben Prisoner was the only survivor among his family members after the car was driving, fell into the river.

Recounting the horrific moments, Mrs. Zashistar told the Indian express -the gate that sat in the back when the car fell into the river.

A video about her, noticeably upset and shouting anyone to save her son, has since become viral. Later, she said no one had shouted for a long time before help came. She lost six family members.

Dilipsinh Padhiyar, another survivor (not connected with Ms. Prychyar), returned home with night shifts on two -wheeled whiteness when an accident occurred.

“Movement moved as usual,” he said the Indian Express.

He said he barely crossed 100 m on the bridge when he felt vibration before the structure gave way.

“I would fall into the river,” he said.

Mr. Zadhikhier was injured, but managed to hold on to the metal rod and stay afloat until the local fishermen came to the rescue.

Eyewitnesses said the collapse was felt like an earthquake, shaking the ground and sending several vehicles that crashed into the river.

Jerei Singh, one of the locals who rushed to the scene, told the BBC Gujarati that he was warned by a friend’s phone call.

“As soon as I heard, I rushed,” he said. “We started pulling vehicles with ropes. People from this area gathered to help.”

The collapse started a political line, and the locals said they often complained about his bad condition.

Ravbhai, who lives in the area, told the BBC Gujarati that the bridge often shakes when heavy cars were traveling.

Abesin Parmar, the head of the local council from the village near the bridge, said he was in a “dilapidated” state and “had potholes everywhere.”

“The spices can be seen that stick out from the structure. We complained many times, but no action has been taken,” he said.

Government Secretary of Government, Gujarat Rasikesh Patel, denied this, saying that the bridge had been checked and repaired at regular intervals.

“Recently, Chief Minister Bhupendra Podel approved the dismantling of the existing bridge and the construction of the new one. We had to give a tender quickly,” he said.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who came from Gujarat, expressed his condolences to the victims’ families and announced compensation.

The collapse on Wednesday is one of a number of deadly accidents associated with aging and poorly supported by public infrastructure in India.

In 2022, about 135 people were killed when a 137-year-old hanging bridge Gujarat’s football city fell into the river. The bridge, a popular tourist attraction, reopened for visitors a few days earlier after repair.
