Rajasthan took on Tamil Nadu in the second pre-quarterfinal of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 at the Vadodara International Cricket Stadium in Vadodara on Thursday, January 9. Tamil Nadu captain Shai Kishor won the toss and decided to invite Rajasthan to bat first.
Abhijit Tomar gave Rajasthan a quick start but fellow opener Sachin Yadav fell cheaply for just four runs but their captain Mahipal Lomror played a brilliant innings against Tamil Nadu. After Rajasthan lost an early wicket, Abhijeet consolidated the innings with a crucial partnership with Mahipal.

The 29-year-old right-handed batsman played a composed but aggressive innings, scoring 111 off 125 balls with 12 boundaries and a six. Tomar’s century came off 107 balls, showing his ability to balance aggression with caution and keep the score going.
On the other hand, Lomror’s quick-fire 60 off 49 balls provided excellent support to Rajasthan’s opener as the pair added over 100 runs for the third wicket. His smart running and timely boundaries frustrated the Tamil Nadu bowlers and helped Rajasthan recover from an early setback.
However, wickets were falling from the other ends as Rajasthan wicketkeeper-batsman Kartik Sharma could only muster a valuable 35 runs off 28 balls, while the rest of the line-up, barring Samarpit Joshi (15), was fired for the single. -digits score against Tamil Nadu.

However, skipper Mahipal Lomror’s fifty and Abhijit Tomar’s century took Rajasthan to 267 runs on the board in the second pre-quarterfinal of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024-25 in Vadodara. For Tamil Nadu, Varun Chakravarthy shone with the ball, taking a five-wicket haul against Rajasthan. Captain Sai Kishore and Sandeep Warrier also provided support with two wickets each against Rajasthan.
Chasing the target of 268 runs, Tamil Nadu got off to a poor start but opener Narayan Jagdeesan’s 65 off 52 balls and number three Baba Indrajith’s 35 off 55 balls, followed by Vijay Shankar’s 69-ball 49, it helped bounces back against Rajasthan.

However, in the 35th over, a bit of mix-up between Mohamed Ali and Vijay Shakar swung all the momentum in Rajasthan’s favor in the quarter-finals of the 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy. Ali and Vijay made the mistake against Aniket Choudhary as Deepak Hooda’s sharp delivery from cover and the player’s instant reflexes ended the non-striker’s innings at 34 runs.

Vijay Shankar showed intent to steal the single but kept looking at the ball as Mohamed Ali was already walking away. Meanwhile, Hooda stopped the ball as it slid into the field and pitched to bowler Aniket Choudhary, who took it perfectly to light the stumps before Ali crossed the line.
Later, Aniket removed Sanjay Yadav for just two runs in the 37th over to completely swing the game in Rajasthan’s favour. Sanjay had no idea of Aniket’s delivery, and the keeper took an easy catch to end his stay.

Sai Kishore (13) and Varun Chakravarthy (18) later tried to take Tamil Nadu over the line but eventually Rajasthan won the thrilling encounter by 19 runs in Vadodara. Aman Singh Rajendra Singh Shekhawat finished with three wickets, while Aniket Choudhary and Kukna Ajay Singh took two wickets each, and Khaleel Ahmed took one against Tamil Nadu.
