Eddie Hearn says George Kambosos Jr. will headline a show in Australia in March. He won’t say who the former unified lightweight champion will fight, but says he will be a top 15 contender in his debut at 140.
“The Emperor” Kambosos is going through a tough time in his career right now, losing three of his last four fights, and he looks like a textbook example of a one-hit wonder.
George pulled off a miracle upset of Teofimo Lopez in 2021 and made millions from that brief success. However, Kambosos has gone downhill since then, losing twice to Devin Haney and being knocked out by Vasily Lomachenko. It’s a flash in the pan.
Kambosos (21-3, 10 KOs) says he will challenge Richardson Hitchins for his IBF light welterweight title in the summer. He refers to the undefeated New Yorker as a “boomKambosos is confident that he will defeat him to become a two-division world champion.
Hitchins ruined Hearn’s plans for a big Australian showdown by defeating IBF 140lb champion Liam Paro by a 12-round unanimous decision last month on December 7. Hearn was hoping to match Kambosos and Paro in a big Aussie deal in 2025, as that fight would have sold heavily in the Australian market.
