A struggle for survival and legacy: David Morrell has to conquer the Imam Khataev Imam Invicta storm to regain his throne

David Morrell is looking for redemption against heavy weight and unbeaten Imam Khataev. Dazn PPV In Queens, New York.

Although this is not a world title eliminator, there is still much at stake for the two fighters, especially Morrell (11-1, 9 kos), which has a loss and cannot afford to suffer another one. A loss here by Morrell would force him to make a difficult decision about his career.

The winner of this struggle will probably be ignored and avoided by the Unified Champion Dmitry Bivol. But they will be in a position to collect the belts, as they are undressed from Bivol one by one.

Morrell is the number 2 WBA, #2 WBC, #3 Wbo and #8 in the ring. It has athletics and the technical skills to defeat what some fans have labeled “the next beterbiev”. You will need to discover the right play plan to use and adapt -if something doesn’t work.

Khataev’s power and weaknesses

In the loss of the decision of the twelve rounds of Morrell to David Benavidez last February, he waited too long to adapt and fell too far to make up for the lost ground. Khataev (10-0, 9 kos) has a better power than Benavidez and is as aggressive as it was. What lacks is speed, endurance and mobility. This is something that the youngest fighter, Morrell, 27, can take advantage of.

In training clips, Morrell was seen bouncing around the ring, similar to the British fighter Ben Whittaker, a boxer whom Khataev lost in the 2020 Olympic finals. Whittaker made Khataev hinder more than a punch in any sequence and neutralized his power.

Morrell showed in his last struggle and many others that he has the power to publish and beat Khataev in his own game doing it with him. If Morrell is ready to go to war with him, he has an offensive weaponry to bring him and eliminate him.

In Khataev’s latest fight against Traveler Durval Elias Palacio, he was dumped with late combinations. There was a sequence in which Palacio appeared near to mark a tie after tagging Khataev with a combination of eight fast fires, with each landing. Khataev looked in poor condition, with his eyes all the heavy leather he had taken.

If Morrell and Khataev were better known by U.S. fans, their struggle would have been higher on the July 12 card, as he promises to be more entertaining than two of the fights positioned ahead.
