The 80-year-old Uganda President, 80-year-old Yord Museveni, was announced to the next year’s presidential election, opening his way to extend to almost 40 years of power.
In his speech, Museveni stated that he responded to the call and, if he was elected, would push his mission to transform Uganda into a “high income country”.
Museveni’s critics say he ruled with an iron hand because he had seized power as a rebel leader in 1986.
Since then, it has won all the elections, and the constitution has been amended twice to remove age and urgent restrictions to allow it to remain in office.
The Bobi Wine pop star is expected to become the main candidate for Museveni in the elections scheduled for next January.
Wine told BBC in April that he would fight Musalen when he was nominated his party, the Unity National Platform, but it became “tougher” to be in opposition from the growth of the state’s repression.
“Staying in opposition in Uganda means to indicate them to a terrorist,” he said.
Bobby wine, the real name of Robert Kjagulani, lost the last elections in Musveni in Musveni by 35% to 59% in the poll, marred by allegations of falsification and repression against the opposition.
Another well -known opposition politician, Besige, has been imprisoned since November after charge of treason. He denies the prosecution, saying his arrest is political.
In his speech at the National Conference on Resistance Movement (NRM) on Saturday, Museveni said he had achieved stability and progress in Uganda.
He said it was very important that Uganda “does not miss a bus history, as it happened in the past when Europe turned and Africa stagnated and is enslaved.”
Museveni added that he wants Uganda to make a “quality leap” and become a “high average income country”.
“Other Asian countries with smaller natural resources have done it. We can do it,” he added.
