Some compared projects with a strange fictional city of Vakanda

Plans for the futuristic city in Senegal, about which the singer’s singer dreamed, were lifted, and instead he would work on something more realistic, officials say.

“The Akon City project no longer exists,” said Serigne Mamadou Mboup, Head of the Senegal Tourism Development Authority, BBC said.

“Fortunately, an agreement was reached between SAPCO and entrepreneur Aliyun Badar TIAM (aka windows). What he prepares with us is a realistic project that SAPCO will fully support.”

Famous for its number of Noughties Chart hits, Akon, born in the US, but partly grew in Senegal – announced two ambitious projects in 2018, which were to represent the future of African society.

The first was Akon City – reportedly cost $ 6 billion (£ 5 billion). It was supposed to work on the second initiative – a brand new cryptocurrency called Akoin.

The initial projects for Akon City with its bold lush skyscrapers compared the commentators with the strange fictional city of Vakanda in the films “Black Panther” and Marvel comics.

But after five years of setbacks, the 800 hectare site in the IBADIN – about 100 km (60 miles) south, Dakar – remains mostly blank. The only structure is incomplete reception. There are no roads, no housing, no power grid.

“We were promised jobs and development,” said one local resident of the BBC. “Nothing has changed instead.”

Meanwhile, the acaane cryptocurrency stars are fighting for repayment of its investors over the years, With the shot itself giving up: “I didn’t manage properly – I take full responsibility.”

There were also questions about whether it would even be legally acting as the main payment method in the city of windows. Senegal uses CFA Franc, which is regulated and issued by the Central Bank of Western Africa (BCEAO), and, like many central banks, expressed the confrontation between the cryptocurrency.

Plans for the city were wide.

These plans were postponed and the work will start on a more realistic development on the same site in Mbaden

The first stage was only to include the hospital, shopping center, school, police, waste and solar factory – all by the end of 2023.

Sitting on the Atlantic coast of Senegal, the eco -friendly city was fully operating on renewable energy sources.

But despite Akon persistence in an interview with the BBC 2022 that the project was “100,000% of movement”, significant construction did not follow the original launch ceremony.

Now the Senegalian government has confirmed that many suspected – the project stopped for recovery. Officials referred to lack of funding and stopped construction efforts as key reasons for the decision.

Although the City windows, as it was originally, were postponed, the government states that it is now working with an area over a more “realistic” development project for the same site.

The land near Mbadin remains a high strategic value, especially with the approach of the 2026 Youth Olympic Games, and is expected to increase tourist activity.
