2020 Cuban Olympian Andy Cruz hopes Keyshawn will be successful in his title challenge against WBO lightweight champion Denys Berinchyk on February 14. Cruz says he wants to take the WBO belt from Keyshawn (12-0, 8 KOs) if he wins it. Berinchyk vs. Keyshawn will be shown on ESPN and ESPN+. The event starts at 9:00 pm ET/6:00 PT.
Andy refers to Davis as “my son” because of his many wins over him. However, he still wants him to defeat Berinchyk (19-0, 9 KOs) next month. He says he’ll be watching the fight.
This would be Cruz’s fifth win over Keyshawn. Your record is perfect 4-0, and has called out the Top Rank-promoted Davis repeatedly since turning pro, but with no luck. Keyshawn doesn’t want to lose again, so he makes excuses.
Even if Davis defeats Berinchyk, he will not defend the WBO title against Cruz. This is the last person he would consider fighting because he knows what will happen if they fight.
That would be like Keyshawn giving away the WBO belt. He already said what he expects to do if he puts his hands on his belt. Davis says he wants to use it to try and lure WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis into a unification fight. This is a dream that has no chance of happening because Tank is focused on fighting popular fighters.
Keyshawn’s excuses for not fighting Andy Cruz
I don’t know how Keyshawn could say with a straight face that Cruz isn’t “ready” to fight him, when he beat him four times in the amateurs and has been better than him in the pros. Davis has looked poor in his fights against Nahir Albright and Miguel Madueno. These are the only two semi-good fighters Keyshawn has fought since turning pro. The rest were bushes.
“I think my son has improved a lot. I hope he wins the belt to see if I can take it out for the 5th time,” Andy Cruz told YSM Sports Mediareacting to Keyshawn David challenging WBO Lightweight Champion Denys Berinchyk on February 14th.
“Of course I’ll be watching this fight. What kind of father isn’t going to watch his son?” Cruz said when asked if he will watch the Keyshawn-Berinchyk fight.
