TikTok star Joules Smith died aged 6 following a terminal cancer diagnosis.
Joules’ father, Joe Smithannounced the news of his daughter’s death in an Instagram video posted earlier this month. “Our dancing queen we love you forever 💔💔💔,” he captioned the clip, revealing that Joules died on December 9.
“As you may have noticed, we haven’t been on social media for the past few weeks. That’s because we got to spend every moment with our beautiful princess Joules — and we did just that,” Joe told followers days after Joules’ death. “We didn’t leave that little girl’s side. Unfortunately, in the early hours of Monday morning, our beautiful little dancing queen between me and (my wife) Eliseus died in bed.”
Based in the UK with her family, Joules went viral earlier this year after announcing that she had been diagnosed with diffuse inoperable congenital pontine glioma (DIPG), a highly aggressive tumor found in the brain stem.
Joe began posting videos of Joules as she continued to battle the illness over the past few months. In particular, he posted “Dance for Joules” videos that helped raise money for them GoFundMe page set up for the family last June. Almost £97,000 (over $76,000) has currently been raised.
The website — created by a family friend — shared that Joe and Elisha took Joules to the doctor “after very brief and mild symptoms,” leading them to receive a brain tumor diagnosis.
“Joules has been an absolute inspiration to everyone and I am so proud to be her father, as Elisha is her mother,” Joe continued in his Instagram video. “We find so much comfort in knowing that she has inspired and touched the lives of so many people from all over the world.”
He continued, “It sounds crazy to say it, but we reached everyone around the world with ‘Dancing for Joules’ and thank you guys for sharing these videos and helping us to raise awareness. This is something we promise we will carry forward.”
Concluding his video, Joe asked fans to keep dancing to his late daughter.
“I know she’ll keep dancing,” he added. “I want to take a minute to say thank you very much to every single person who has contributed, who has been there on our journey, charity events, everything that is happening at the moment and the ‘Dancing for Joules.’ If you took the time to dance, thank you very much.”
