They could not have chosen a worse time to publish the stand film

Stephen King is my favorite author. It’s always a pretty good time to be a fan of his works and also a huge Dork movie because King’s stories have continuous studio feature adjustments.

And this year looks like a complete standout for its filmography. My Favorite movie of the year So far oscilling perkins’ The monkeyA wild interpretation of King’s short story of the same name. We also get movies in 2025 based on two of my favorite king novels ever (written under his nickname Richard Bachman), The long journey and The running guy.

And if the trailers of those films are honest representations of their final products, it will be a flag year for us regular readers.

And that is why the announcement is for a new movie adaptation of The stand arguably the smallest and most disobey Stephen King’s movie News that could never happen.

Moon, that spells dumb

Disorder walking Tom Holland Doug Liman

Doug Liman was revealed as director of new studio film adaptation of Stephen King’s epic and notable novel ,, The stand. When this was recently announced, he immediately tied all the reasons in my mind why this was a bad idea rather than a good one.

First, make The stand Into a film picks up red flags for fans immediately. The story is epic scattered that needs a lot of time to tell his story. Trying to condemn so much of the character of the novel and conspiracy to format a feature film is essentially a daunting and defective effort. Even if they split the film into two parts (what I expect), just the wrong format for a story is so dependent on a lot of detailed character interaction over a significant period of time.

Not to mention that Doug Liman’s participation is also suspicious in terms of possible quality. Not that Liman is an inevitable director is bad or uninteresting, but I argue that he has passed his main. His last worthwhile flic was over a decade ago and Edge tomorrowA direction is not what makes that flick a pleasant cult favorite. And i guess everyone collectively throws Chaos walking and Way Into a memory hole, I can’t argue against it.

Look, The stand An amazing story and certainly deserves an adaptation that will make it justice. Granted, 1994 miniseries may not be well aged but is fully laudable for doing its absolute best to introduce a loyal adjustment. And while we seem to (and rightly) abandon a limited 2020 series, it certainly looks The stand Already had a few bites in the cinematic apple.

Part of what makes this year so excited for King fans is to see the stories that they have not shakened before. The long journey is a film that has been trying to be made for decades. The monkey was a short story he had never seen the light of the silver screen before now (no, I do not recognize The devil’s gift/Merlin’s shop of mystical wonders). Yes, The running guy Made an Arnold vehicle and I love his brand of charm Lunkhead, but it’s extremely far from the actual story of the novel. Edgar Wright’s film gives Bachman’s novel a first shot of being properly represented and translated into a film.

Dropped the bomb from “we do The stand! … Again! ”In the middle of a year with so many fresh adjustments Stephen King is a moment that doesn’t read the room. The girl who loved Tom Gordon? Ecstatic! Laika announced a stop-moving feature of Dragon’s eyes? Stupendous! There are still so many king stories that they haven’t made their way to the screen, so get another reef on The stand treacherous to those potential projects.

Make your stand

the miniseries stand

If Doug Liman The stand Ultimately happens, I very much hope I am wrong about it. I hope this is the best adjustment yet and it is so good Distress look like Lawn man 2: beyond cyberspace. I will not pick up my hopes but will allow the possibility that it will be a worthy third reef on the book.

This may be an unpopular view, but The stand Actually one of King’s stories I think is best at home in its original medium. It’s not something I think about so obviously cinematic. Not that it cannot be but it is best threaded threads through the word written on the page.

They’re going to do The stand No matter what I write on the internet so I can only pray that it turns out interestingly. But I’ll be over here renewing the news to see if I can anticipate Stephen King’s movie I haven’t seen before.
