According to the witnesses, after his daughter fell from the fourth deck of the 14-field cruise ship Disney, his father jumped into the ocean to try to save her, the witnesses reported.
Video on social networks showed that the passengers cheered because they were safely recovered on the rescue boat. According to the witnesses, they were taken after the water for 10 minutes.
The girl seemed to fall when her father took a picture of the railing, witnesses said. The ship was broadcasting overboard, and the crew rushed to restore them.
“The ship was moving fast, so fast, it’s crazy, how fast people became tiny points in the sea, and then you lost them out of sight,” said Laura Amood.
“The captain slowed the ship and turned it, and then they unfolded a delicate ship with people to go, and we saw them save their dad and daughter,” she said CBS News, an American partner of the BBC.
Disney’s dream of 4000 people returned to Fort Lodardale, Florida, after sailing for four days around the Bahamas.
In Disney’s statement, he confirmed that two passengers were rescued, but offered some details about what had happened.
“The Disney Dream crew quickly saved two guests out of the water,” said the Disney Cruise Press. “We welcome the members of our crew for exceptional skills and operational actions that provided a safe return of both guests to the ship for a few minutes.
“We watched it, you could see two little things … It was crazy, it was horrible,” said the passenger Gar Franz, said NBC News, describing how he witnessed that they were entering the ocean and almost disappeared into the horizon.
The incident happened on the last day of the cruise and the ship returned to the port in Florida as usual.
Although passengers rarely happen that passengers fall from cruise ships, rescuers are not often successful when they do it.
According to the International Association of Cruise Lines Report from 201925 people fell over board that year from cruise ships, and only nine were saved from the water.
