Jury start reflections in the trial of murder murder

The jury in the trial of the Australian woman, who is accused of preparing the deadly mushroom for relatives, retired to decide her fate.

50 -year -old Erin Paterson did not find herself guilty of four charges – three murder and for attempting to kill – Bick Velington’s lunch at her regional Victorian House in July 2023.

The prosecution stated that Ms Paterson deliberately invested mushrooms for death at home before he was lying to the police and disposing.

But the defense claims that Ms Paterson accidentally included poisonous mushrooms in the dish and only lied because she panic after injuring the people she loved.

Ms. Paterson’s son -in -law, Don and Gale Paterson, both 70, together with his sister Gayla Hilkinson, 66 years old, all became ill and died a few days after lunch in Lengate.

Hiser’s husband, local pastor Jan Wilkinson, was healed a few weeks in a coma. Simon Paterson, a remote husband of the accused, was also invited to lunch, but pulled out the day before.

On Monday, Christopher Bill gave her final instructions to the 14-member jury, summing up the evidence of the prosecution and the only witness to the defense of Ms. Paterson.

After almost two months and more than 50 witnesses, 12 assessors resolved the newsletter before the group came out of the resignation for discussions.

In her final arguments, Prosecutor Nanet said that Mrs. Paterson “said so much lies that it was difficult to track them.”

The prosecution claimed that Ms Paterson lied to relatives about the diagnosis of cancer to convince them to attend a fatal lunch, poisoned them, and then a false disease to cover her traces.

The further lie of Ms Paterson to the police and medical staff about the harvesting of wild mushrooms, as well as her decision to reset the food dehydator used to cook, testified to her guilt.

“She told the lies because she knew that the truth would concern her,” said Nanet Rogers.

“When she knew her lie was revealed, she came up with a carefully built story to match the proof almost.”

Dr. Rogers said in court there was no “specific motive” for the alleged crime, but the jury should have “no difficulties” in the deviation of the argument “it was a terrible emergency blank.”

However, the defense claimed that the lack of the motive was key. Ms Paterson had no reason to kill her guests, they said.

During the evidence, Mrs. Paterson she told the jury that she was very close to her laws and never intended to harm them.

When she was preparing lunch, Mrs. Paterson claimed that she added mushrooms from the container to the pantry, which now realized that it may have included both purchased shops and rich mushrooms.

She also told the court that she had suffered from bulimia for years, and made herself throw food from the beef Velington – what her defense team says, explains why she did not become as sick as others who ate her.

The lie about cancer was because she was ashamed to get a weight loss operation, said Mrs. Paterson, and she did not tell the authorities the truth about her mushroom hobby because they were afraid that they could blame her for getting relatives.

“She does not judge the lies”, the lawyer of Colin Mandi SC, “this is not a court of moral court.”

He accused the persecution of forcing the “puzzles” about the evidence “together”, “stretching interpretations, ignoring alternative explanations because they do not match perfectly with the story.”

In his latest instructions, Justice Bill stated that the jury that they were alone were “judges in this case”.

He said that they should not condemn Ms Paterson just for the lie, because there are “reasons why a person can behave in such a way that makes a person guilty.”

He added that while “any reasonable person will feel great sympathy” for Paterson and Wilkinson’s families, the jury should also not allow themselves to fade emotions.

Now the jurors were sequestered, meaning that if they are intentionally, they will remain in the supervision where they will practically do not contact the world until they bring the solutions.
