Former England, Allan Lamb, has opened on the racial quota system in the South Cricket -African. Lamb, born in South -Africa I moved to England during apartheid period, stated that proteas could be a “stronger” side with “merit” based on the quota system.
South -Africa should form an average of six colored players, including at least two black African players, for a season. Temba Bavuma recently directed South Africa to the title of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25. However, some continue to question the impact of the racial quota system on the team selection.
Allan Lamb said that the cricket has not achieved the same success as rugby. Stated that the current system restricts the number of selected white players. Lamb said that the selection should be based on merit. He requested the unit among all the communities, black, white, colors and Indians.

“Rugby seems to do well, but the cricket did not get it right,” Lamb said PTI. “The (quota) system has been overcome. It is now basically, only a certain amount of white players is allowed.”
“South -Africa could be a stronger team if they choose players for merit (and not a quota). In those days of apartheid have already passed.
Temba Bavuma became the first black African to mark a century of test for south -Africa, reaching the milestone against England in Cape City in 2016. He assumed the captaincy of the test in 2023.
South Africa ended up with a wait of 27 years to get an ICC title by winning the World Test Championship at Lord’s. Bavuma contributed crucial scores of 36 and 66, helping his team to get a five -wicket victory over Australia. It was the second ICC Trophy in South -Africa, the first from the 1998 Champions Trophy.
The team, which had endured numerous mishap at previous ICC events, finally broke the Jinx. With this victory, Bavuma not only made history, but also played a key role in the leadership of Proteas to so long -awaited global success.
Allan Lamb also called for changes in the test of test cricket, including the introduction of a two -level system that involves promotion and relegation. He added that this model is essential to maintaining the competitiveness and relevance of sport.
“ The ICC will have to do something in this regard because the format they have for international test matches, people are not too safe from what happens there for two years. There are some teams, as everyone said, that South -Africa was qualified because of the fact that they played all the weakest teams. But it was not the problem in South -Africa. This was the problem of the ICC.
“And I think, you need a two -level structure. And this has to come very quickly. The CPI president must sit, otherwise, Cricket will have a loss. You need strong teams playing one another, but they also have to play the weakest teams,” added Allan Lamb.
