Shanghai is not a stranger for jaw dropping.
In the last example, the historic Shanghai building, transferred to robots, attracts global attention. Crossing completeShikumen -style building weighing about 7,500 metric tons (approximately 8 267 tons of the United States) and covers approximately 43,400 square feet, really rewrites the rules.
This ambitious project works on the army of 432 small robots that move a massive structure of about 33 feet each day to give way to new underground development. Let’s plunge into how it happens, why it is important and what it means for the future Urban Saving.

Robots are stepping on the ring for the first in boxing history

Huayanli-is a set of three brick and wood buildings built in the 1920s and 1930s. These structures, located in the heart of the Shanghai Historical District Zhangwan, are classic examples of Shikumen’s architecture, which is a unique mixture of Western and Chinese design. Zhanguan himself is over 140 years old and is one of the largest and best preserved Shanghai ranks.

Delivery robot autonomously lifts and transports heavy goods
Moving is not just for showing. The city builds a three -storey underground center under the complex, which will include more than 570,000 square feet of cultural and commercial space, parking garage with more than 100 spots and transport center, which will connect three main subway lines. Keeping Hugli’s historical complex over the ground, adding modern infrastructure below, Shanghai finds a reasonable balance between heritage honor and progress.

Construction in the box turns into a portable tiny house in minutes
The movement of the building of this size is quite rigid, but the task is multiplied by the tight web of Zhangwana narrow lanes and closely stuffed historic buildings. Traditional relocation methods are simply not suitable. The historical significance of the area also means that any mistake can damage indispensable architecture, including the “Great Hall” of 1928, which once housed a patriotic night school.

Instead of using cranes or bulldozers, engineers put 432 small running robots. These robots gently raise the building and slowly move it forward, an inch inch, covering about 33 feet daily. To reach this incredible level of accuracy, the project relies on several advanced technologies. Special low -cleansing robots that can be controlled remotely, move with dense corridors and doors to create new foundations under the historical structure.
Earth’s robots Equipped with complex mechanical hands, just below four feet, use artificial intelligence to tell the difference between clay and hard obstacles. Engineers also use the modeling of the cloud construction and scan to create a very detailed 3D. These digital models help the team plan accurate motion routes, avoid potential collisions and curved design paths to remove the soil.
To keep the construction site effective and minimize the violations, the soil is carried out with the conveyor system, as well as the assembly line. This step is only temporary. Upon completion of the underground construction, the Huayanli complex will be carefully returned to its original place, fully restored and preserved, now sitting at a modern underground facility.

Not every day the whole historic building is done to walk on the city block, but the Huaianley project in Shanghai shows that with the right technologies and a little fantasy, even the most ancient neighborhoods can be part of tomorrow’s urban landscape. Such a combination of preservation and innovation offers an exciting view of how cities can grow without losing souls. Who would have thought that robots could become canceled in heritage?
